Technological infrastructures have been evolving in storage capacity and in speed in order to meet the high growth in the search of goods and digital services. The handling speed of storage data considerably evolved with the emergence of SSD technology (Solid State Drive) which allows us to increase the writing and reading speed about ten times more, comparing with HDD technology (Hard Disk Drive).
This technology is both applied to our PCs and to the servers where the websites are located. However, since this technology is relatively new, its price is still high, even though it has been decreasing with the scalability of the industry, which means we currently seeing a bigger use of this technology, both in a private and in a professional level.
More and more users are less tolerant with waiting time, and when browsing the internet they often end up giving up consulting the page, due to the fact that it takes too long to load.
In addition to the obvious advantage of the increase of a website loading speed, when it is hosted in SSD disks, there is another advantage that is not perceptible right away: search engines add increasing value to the speed of a website, as a result of an algorithm that defines the rankings presenting the search results.
Like other domains, the first ones to opt for this type of technology are going to have a competitive advantage compared to their competition. Gradually, those that do not adhere to the technological development will be penalized.
